Bisexual Network brings together the city's bi-folk

by Sarah Young

Cleveland-The Cleveland Bisexual Network is an attempt to bring together bi-folk in the Cleveland area for socializing, community-building, and political and social activism. It works to connect Cleveland-area bisexuals to local, regional, national, and international resources, while facilitating the existence of a varied and diverse local bi community.

Currently there are several organizations affiliated with the network. They are Bi and Beyond, a face-to-face discussion group run monthly at the Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Center, BiNEOhio, a Yahoo Groups e-mail discussion group, and Ohio Bi Organizers, a statewide group of organizers and activists working to facilitate education and community-building. CBN maintains a web site with contact information on local, regional, and national/international groups of interest at http://ohiogsfc.homestead.com/Bi.html.

CBN understands that "bi" or "bisexual" may not be the label of choice for many people who recognize attractions to persons of varied genders. The group welcomes people who choose personal identifiers other

than "bi," as well as those who choose not to accept a specific identifier. It also welcomes gay, lesbian and straight allies.

Many partnered bisexuals are in mixedorientation relationships, so CBN strives to create an inclusive environment where bisexual people and their friends and partners of any orientation may find community and support.

This year CBN has worked to expand its educational outreach, with members participating in various panel discussions and educational events. It also held the first-ever Ohio Bi Organizers' Retreat, a weekend event designed to create connection between activists and organizers across the state, allowing them to learn from each other and work together to facilitate growth in their local communities.

For more information on any of the CBNaffiliated groups, or to request bisexual speakers for an event, contact Sarah Young, Bi and Beyond, at the Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Center, P.O. Box 6177, Cleveland, Ohio 44101; call 216-687-9594 or e-mail bineohio
